YOUNG GIRLS COOKING UP
A STRONG WORK ETHIC
July 23, 2007
JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Like-minded people with a passion for good food are cooking up a strong
work ethic and “can-do” attitude for girls ranging in age from 12 to 17 at Sullivan House, a
daniel, inc therapeutic group home. The girls, who first will watch the movie “Ant Bully” to
learn how to be pro-active in their lives, will learn how to prepare a special home-cooked meal.
The culinary program, hosted by Chef Cheryl and Chef Jamey of Heirlooms Café, furthers their
ongoing support of daniel’s kids through a collaborative partnership with Womenade. “Food is a
universal language of sharing and community where people come together and break bread,” said
Chef Cheryl, co-owner of Heirlooms Café. “Reaching out to the girls at Sullivan House through a
cooking class is a great way for them to learn how to take care of themselves, understand about
nutrition and eating right while having a lot of fun.”
Date: Saturday, July 28
Time: 4 pm to 7 pm
Place: Sullivan House, 1526 Parental Home Road
“We want the girls to view the Ant Bully movie because the ant is one of the wisest insects due
to its work ethic,” said Kathy Timmons, coordinator of the event and a Womenade board member.
“We are helping the girls learn how to be pro-active and create successes rather than being reactive
to whatever life throws at them.”
Heirlooms has partnered with Womenade for several years to support daniel’s community service programs
through special events and fundraising. Womenade is a non-profit founded in 2002 by Judy Hicks, Re/Max
Coastal Real Estate, with a goal to mentor the children at daniel through career development, fun and
community service.
“The idea to bring the culinary expertise of Chef Cheryl and Chef Jamey to the girls at Sullivan House
furthers our commitment to the children to “teach them to dare to dream big,” said Hicks. “We hope this
special program will help them feel connected through the experience of cooking and the enjoyment of
good food.”
For many years, Heirlooms has been wowing clients with a highly successful catering business managed
by Chef Cheryl. Together with Chef Jamey (formerly at bbs restaurant) they opened Heirlooms, a
culinary café and market in January 2007. Heirlooms is located at 9545 San Jose Blvd. in Mandarin or
